009 Agency does Generative Engine Optimization for brands selling in the United Kingdom: we make them visible, cited and chosen inside AI answers across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and DeepSeek — and we re-measure it every two weeks against a logged baseline. The UK is the second market in most of our audits after the US, and the one where we found demand for a category the brand had never measured: a padel brand whose UK demand was twice its US demand, and a visualisation studio that out-ranked five studios Perplexity recommended for the UK and was recommended by none.

This page is the UK read on the same question we ask everywhere: what do buyers search, whom do the engines name, and what decides it. The numbers are Google Ads volumes for the UK from August 2026 and a live shelf test run on 5 September 2026.

Read together: British buyers still search for an SEO agency and add the AI words second. A UK page that says “GEO agency” and nothing else addresses 320 people a month; one that says “AI SEO agency” and explains GEO addresses about three times that. The category is a fifth the size of the US one and a third the size of Germany’s.

what the UK shelf looked like on 5 september 2026

We asked ChatGPT (gpt-5.5, web search on) and Perplexity (sonar-pro) which UK agencies specialise in generative engine optimisation and can get a British brand recommended by AI. Logged verbatim.

one prompt, two engines · who was named and from where

ChatGPTRank4AI, AgentCraft-AI, Otter Labs, MarGen, Geo Digital, GEO SEO, Victory Digital, GEO Intelligence, Visionary — nine shops, most with the category word in the domain and under a hundred organic visits a monthseocompare.co.uk, a comparison site, twice; then the agencies’ own pages. Not one of the UK’s large search agencies appeared.
PerplexityFound, The SEO Works, Push Group, Polaris, Passion Digital, Blue Array, Charle, ClickSlice, Buried, Reboot Online, Varn, Woyafound.co.uk twice, clickslice.co.uk twice, tilio.co.uk, seoworks.com, polarisagency.com, and a neural-marketing roundup. The SEO Works is in Philadelphia and Push Group is in Dubai; both were presented as UK agencies.

Three things decide the UK shelf, and they are not the ones that decide UK Google.

ChatGPT’s UK list is an exact-match-domain list. The engine found a comparison site, read its entries, and named the agencies whose names contained the category. Rank4AI has about thirty organic visits a month; GEO SEO has five. Found, with twenty-seven thousand, did not appear. For a brand this means the shelf is cheap; for an agency it means a comparison-site entry outweighs a decade of rankings.

Perplexity’s UK list is the agencies’ own GEO pages, plus errors. It cited Found, ClickSlice and Tilio directly and built the rest from a roundup. It also put an American and an Emirati agency on the British shelf, because their pages mention the UK. The engine does not check the address; it reads the page.

UK agencies publish prices more than most. Tilio, in Exeter, publishes four tiers from £499 to £4,250 a month and an £800 audit; Polaris asks for a budget from £3,000; the rest say “get in touch”. In the US ten-agency list, one publishes. A British buyer can self-qualify more often than an American one, and should expect to.

where 009 stands in the UK, honestly

Our organic footprint in the UK is zero and we are not on either shelf above. What we have is the measurement: the UK is the second market in most of our 160 audits, four of the studios and brands we audited are headquartered in England, and in every one of those the UK finding was a surprise to the client — demand twice the US, or five recommended competitors out-ranked and still not recommended. We would rather show you that data than a London address.

what the first 90 days look like

The order is the same as everywhere, because it has to be: readable, then verifiable, then quotable. What changes per market is the language of the prompts, the directories the engines read, and who publishes the lists.

  1. Audit. The prompts your buyers actually ask, in the language they ask them, run live through the engines and logged verbatim, plus crawler checks with real AI user-agents. You get a health score, the shelf in this market today, and the three most expensive gaps. Complimentary. what is inside →
  2. Make the entity local and machine-readable. One organisation record with the local registration, address and languages; the local directories and review platforms the engines cited above resolving to you. Shipped as files your developer applies. technical GEO →
  3. Publish what gets quoted, in the right language. British English, British spellings of the category (“optimisation”), and pages for the questions UK buyers ask: comparisons, prices in pounds, and the lists the engines answer “best seo agency uk” with.
  4. Get onto the lists that decide this market. For the UK today: the comparison site ChatGPT read, the agency roundups Perplexity read, Clutch UK and the trade titles — identified from your own panel, not from a generic outreach list.
  5. Re-measure. Same panel, same language, every review, reported as a delta. Series, not screenshots.

proof, and its limits

No UK client is on retainer, so there is no UK program result on this page. The measured result we can point to is from an EU legal client that went from 0/5 to 4/5 engines naming it on its category prompt by day 17 (July 2026), with the log published. The UK-specific evidence is audit data: the demand and shelf tables above, and the UK columns of the audits we have run.

one thing we will not do

We will not buy a domain with the category in its name and call it a strategy. The ChatGPT shelf above is made of them today, and it will be made of something else the day the comparison site changes its list. A brand with a real UK entity, readable credentials and a page per buyer question survives that; an exact-match domain does not.
